Technology on Demand

Texas Institute of Science (TxIS) has gained a reputation as a valued technology partner in several industries, especially within the global oil and gas industry. Due to TxIS’ close working relationship with its clients, we learn about issues that they are facing in key areas.

The purpose of this section is to list the most critical technologies where multiple TxIS clients are looking for a solution. If your group has a potential solution for one of the technologies listed, please contact TxIS with an initial description of your capabilities. TxIS will evaluate your submission and determine whether or not to move forward with your solution. If the decision is made to move forward, TxIS will finance your work immediately.

New “Directional Drilling” Theory more...

TxIS Internal Number: G-090209-1

Project Title:

New “Directional Drilling” Theory

Project Description:

Search for and review all issued Patents related to methods of Directional Drilling. Develop a comparable technology that will not violate existing Patents and is able to direct the drill head to change directions.

Expected Deliverables:

  1. Technology white paper of feasibility after reviewing all relevant Patents
  2. Proof of Concept (with laboratory data)

Industry:

Oil and gas drilling

You do not need to have the final, complete solution to contact TxIS. We are seeking scientists who are able to demonstrate that – with proper interim financing - the project can be completed.

Residual stress measurement and benchmarking in metal rods more...

TxIS Internal Number: G-081209-1

Project Title:

Residual stress measurement and benchmarking in metal rods

Project Description:

It is a known phenomena that when a metal rod is pushed down and bent out of its straight position by a fraction of its length (e.g., a 2,000 mm rod is bent by 3mm) then pulled back into a straight position, and this cycle is repeated with a continuous frequency, the rod will build a residual material stress and eventually will break. We are interested in reliable methods to measure and benchmark this residual stress.

Expected Deliverables:

Working laboratory prototype and test matrix using different metals and different stress conditions (early and late phase of residual stress).

Industry:

Steel manufacturing / steel servicing, refurbishing /oil and gas

You do not need to have the final, complete solution to contact TxIS. We are seeking scientists who are able to demonstrate that – with proper interim financing - the project can be completed.

New acoustic imaging capability more...

TxIS Internal Number: G-070209-1

Project Title:

New acoustic imaging capability

Project Description:

Take a strong cup of coffee. Place a metal coin in the bottom of the cup. Throw a 10mm thick layer of sand on top of the coin. Develop a technology that can clearly read what is on the coin.

Expected Deliverables:

Working laboratory prototype

Industry:

Oil and Gas Drilling

Polyalphaolefin as a Drag Reducer more...

TxIS Internal Number: G-071009-1

Project Title:

Polyalphaolefin as a Drag Reducer

Project Description:

Develop technologies that would enable chemical manufacturers to produce ultra-high molecular weight polyalphaolefin co- and ter-polymers useful as drag reducers in the oil and gas industry for hydrocarbon systems. The molecular weights on these materials are typically above 6 million Daltons – the target molecular weight for the desired technology must be higher than 10 million Daltons.

Expected Deliverables:

Working laboratory prototype and test data

Industry:

Oil and gas

You do not need to have the final, complete solution to contact TxIS. We are seeking scientists who are able to demonstrate that – with proper interim financing - the project can be completed.

Drill Tip Pressure more...

TxIS Internal Number: G-062309-1

Project Title:

Drill Tip Pressure

Project Description:

During wellbore drilling, it is paramount to have continuous information on the pressure that the drill-bit is facing. This pressure depends on the formation in which the drill-bit is drilling. The adjustment of drill-bit torque and speed must be correlated to the condition of the formation, which is represented by the pressure at the end of the drill tip.

Expected Deliverables:

  1. Working laboratory prototype
  2. Test data from laboratory as well as field test (Field test will be provided by TxIS)

Industry:

Oil and Gas Drilling

You do not need to have the final, complete solution to contact TxIS. We are seeking scientists who are able to demonstrate that – with proper interim financing - the project can be completed.
